HANDYWORKER / HOME REPAIR SERVICES

Mission

Operated since 1978, this program provides free minor home repairs for eligible low-income homeowners in the City of Los Angeles and some portions of the County of Los Angeles. Primary objective of these services is to ensure that eligible low-income homeowners have comfortable, safe and livable homes. This project repairs about 400 homes each year.

Los Angeles City Handyworker Program

This program is intended to provide minor home repair services, which is generally defined as repair work that is normally exempt from LA City permitting requirements. Examples of repairs or improvements that can be made include:

• Minor finish work repairs to either the exterior or interior;
• Improvements to assist in home safety and security;
• Improvements to render the home accessible to the disabled; and
• Interior and exterior painting.

Due to the limitation of resources, the agency cannot perform all types of minor home repairs that are needed for each eligible homeowner. However, PACE will work with the homeowners to address the priorities of homeowners. LA City expects PACE to help eligible homeowners identify and focus on repairs to property deterioration and preventive maintenance ahead of cosmetic changes.

What are the income guidelines?

The family income of homeowners must fall below the "low" income limits set by the US Department of Housing and Urban Development Section 8. To determine if you meet the low-income guidelines, please contact us.

What are the geographic boundaries of your services?

PACE is contracted by LA City Housing Department to provide minor home repair services in the Central area. The rough boundaries of the Central area include LA River on the east; city boundaries of West Hollywood, Beverly Hills and Canfield Avenue on the west; Alameda Street and Venice Boulevard on the south; and Mulhalland Drive, Hollywood Freeway and Barham Boulevard on the north. Please contact PACE to determine if your residence is located within our service area.

If your home is not located in the Central service area, you may contact PACE or LA City Housing Department at (213) 367-9220 to find out the minor home repair contractors for your area.

Are there other eligibility requirements?

Yes. In addition to being qualified as "low" income and your residence being located within the service area, other requirements for the La City Handyworker Program include:

• The home is OWNED and OCCUPIED by senior who is over 62 years of age;
• The home is OWNED and OCCUPIED by disabled individual;
• Homes that owned and occupied by low-income families and are in need of emergency repairs or cited by a code-enforcement program.

Los Angeles County Handyworker/Home Repair Program

PACE also provides minor home repairs services for those homes OWNED and OCCUPIED BY LOW-INCOME FAMILIES in the areas of Walnut Park, Athens, Lennox, View Park, Windsor Hills and other unincorporated areas in the Los Angeles County.
