Asian Business and Career Expo Fact Sheet
Who is hosting the Asian Business and Career Expo and when and where will the Expo be held?
The Pacific Asian Consortium in Employment (PACE) will host an Asian Business and Career Expo on Wednesday, May 24, 2006, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Golden Eagle Ballroom at the California State University of Los Angeles. A kickoff Breakfast Reception starts at 9:00 a.m. for Exhibitors.
Who is this Asian Business and Career Expo for?
EXHIBITORS Approximately 50 national and regional businesses will have booths with representatives from their Human Resources Department and/or their Procurement Department. These representatives will provide information to attendees about jobs/careers available and/or supply/contractor opportunities. The goal of Exhibitors will be to identify new employees and minority contractor/suppliers, and provide valuable information about various careers available to Asian college students and adults who have not made their career choices or are looking for career changes.
ATTENDEES Asian professionals and/or Asian small business owners will register and attend the Expo seeking employment opportunities and/or supply contracts with the exhibitors. The goal of attendees will be to identify jobs/career opportunities and/or minority contractor/supplier opportunities. Additionally, Asian college students and adults can learn about various career choices to help guide them in the preparation for particular careers.
Will there be any workshops?
Professional business counselors from PACEs Business Development Center (BDC), Career counselors from PACEs WorkSource Center and the State of Californias Employment Development Department will provide continuous workshops for Attendees on the following topics: 1)Resume Preparation; 2)Interviewing Skills; 3)Obtaining Minority Contractor Certification; 4)Other workshops on career and business development.
Why should my company or business participate at the Asian Business and Career Expo?
- Los Angeles County has the largest population of Asians and Pacific Islanders (APIs) than any county in the country.
- Nine of the ten communities with the highest concentration of Asians in Los Angeles County are in the San Gabriel Valley, including six communities in which Asians comprise of 50% or more of the total population.
- According to the US Census, the number of businesses owned by APIs, have increased approximately four times faster than the total number of businesses. California was one of four states where six out of 10 API-owned businesses were located.
- From Los Angeles to Long Beach, 114,000 API owned firms employed 309,000 people and generated $55 million, the largest number of API owned firms than any other metropolitan area, and three times more than New York.
- PACEs Asian Business and Career Expo is the only annual, locally sponsored event that focuses on employment opportunities for Asian professionals and business opportunities for Asian Small Businesses.
