Programs for women, men, low to moderate income, immigrants and refugees - all are welcome! » Los Angeles Business Assistance Program/SBA Women's CenterIf you're a new entrepreneur, learn the basics in a 36 hour course that covers
the most important aspects of launching your business enterprise: feasibility,
marketing, finance, business planning, legal aspects and more! Candidates will
also receive specific instruction on credit repair and financial literacy. Graduates
who actually launch a business will receive consultation from the instructor
and/or from bi-lingual business consultants. Classes are taught once per quarter in English, Spanish and Korean (English
only this quarter, April - June 2005), three days per week from 6 PM to 8 PM,
for six (6) weeks. A $50 fee covers all workshop materials, which includes two
(2) comprehensive manuals ("The Small Business Cookbook - A Business Training
& Mentoring Manual" and "The Encyclopedia of Credit Repair, Identity
Theft, Bankruptcy, Loans and Investments"- a $300 Value in materials alone),

by ORR to serve refugees and asylees resettled in Los Angeles County, this program
provides one-on-one consultation and mentoring on how to launch a small business,
provided by bi-lingual consultants (in Chinese, Vietnamese and Cambodian). The
consultation may include business licensing and registration, products, pricing,
and marketing, business plan and financing. To be eligible to enroll in the
program, participants must be the holder of refugee status permanent resident

- (626) 442-8668 » United Way of Greater Los Angeles - Individual Development Account (IDA) Program: Funded by the United Way of Greater Los Angeles, the IDA program matching funds program is for low income entrepreneurs who are starting a business. Eligible clients who are able to save $1000 over a 12 month period ($85.00 a month) are then eligible for a 2:1 match or $2,000 provided by United Way. During the initial 12-months savings period, the prospective entrepreneur must also attend business training classes covering how to start a micro-enterprise, as well as banking, insurance, and borrowing and the important of their personal credit history. At the end of twelve month period, the participant can withdraw his/her saving of $1,000 together with the matched $2,000. The total of $3,000 must then be used as seed money for business start-up. There is no requirement to pay back the matched money, and the participant will benefit greatly from establishing the habit of saving. For more information,
